Stage 1 of the Valley Line – the first 13.1-kilometer phase of the City of Edmonton’s 27-kilometer Light Rail Transit (LRT) project started in 2016 – runs between Millwoods and 102 Street, connecting commuters with the Capital Line and Metro Line at Churchill Station. This stage includes approximately 2km of elevated rail and 390m of twin sequentially excavated tunnels, 11 stops, an elevated station incorporating a transit centre and Park & Ride, a cable-stayed bridge spanning the North Saskatchewan River supporting light rail on the upper deck and a suspended pedestrian walkway below, a bored tunnel, 44 elevated guideway spans, and an underground transfer point to the existing LRT at Churchill Square.

Alongside Bechtel, lead consortium partner for the Design, Build, Finance phase of the project, Bantrel’s focus was on building and leading a successful joint venture and stakeholder engagement experience. The strong community relationships established, as a result of our stakeholder engagement, was critical for ensuring safe and efficient execution throughout the project.

The project was delivered using a Public-Private Partnership (P3) procurement model.
